The Evasons
Jeff and Tessa Evason are a Canadian based duo specialising in second sight mentalism, which is a type of two person telepathy act where one partner appears to transmit information to the other with no visible or audible cues.
Jeff plays the role of host and guide while Tessa takes centre stage as the blindfolded receiver of information that she shouldn’t be able to know.
Information like serial numbers on borrowed dollar bills, names written on slips of paper and personal thoughts held in silence by audience members.
How it all started
Jeff Evason was already performing as a magician and hypnotist when he met Tessa in the early 1980s. Their paths crossed in Canada and soon they began to collaborate. First offstage, then onstage.
Tessa had no previous experience in magic or mentalism, her background was rooted in holistic health and intuition. Jeff recognised her natural sensitivity and awareness. These traits became the cornerstone of their performance.
They started experimenting with second sight routines at small shows.
Their connection deepened both personally and professionally and so did the strength of their act. Within just a few years, the Evasons were performing on cruise ships, international television shows and stages around the world.
Career highlights and accolades
The Evasons have appeared on major TV networks like NBC, FOX,
Discovery Channel, CW and Penn & Teller: Fool Us, where they delivered
one of the most baffling two person mentalism performances ever aired.
Even though Penn & Teller weren’t fooled on the show due to the nature of the Evasons work, their performance was so amazing, it received a standing ovation and widespread acclaim from the magic and mentalism community.
The Evasons have graced venues ranging from the Magic Castle in Hollywood
to corporate events for companies like IBM, AT&T and Disney.
They’ve also performed in over 40 countries from Europe to Asia
and they always leave audiences mystified and enchanted.
Their work has earned them numerous honours, including:
The Dunninger Memorial Award from the Psychic Entertainers Association
for distinguished professionalism in mentalism.
The Milbourne Christopher Award for contributions to the art of mentalism.
The SARMOTI Award from Siegfried & Roy,
recognising them as one of the best acts in their field.
Honorary membership into the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star (UK)
a rare and prestigious recognition.
They were the first mentalist team ever to receive the Mentalism Award
from the Academy of Magical Arts at The Magic Castle in Los Angeles.
Each of these accolades doesn’t just celebrate their technical mastery
it’s a testament to their integrity, innovation and contributions to the craft of mentalism.
What makes the Evasons unique?
There are many great mentalists in the world and there’s even a few great mentalist duos but The Evasons are in a category of their own and it’s not just because of their flawless second sight skills.
They have genuine rapport
Their connection isn’t just an illusion, it’s the real deal.
The warmth, trust and emotional chemistry between Jeff and Tessa can’t be faked. It’s this bond that elevates their performance from cleverness to pure enchantment.
they don’t use gadgets or electronics
The Evasons are committed to a pure performance style. Their act is entirely unplugged, no hidden microphones or electronics and no stooges. This commitment to the old school techniques gives their performances a timeless elegance.
They gain their audiences respect
Many mentalists position themselves as superior intellects or mysterious manipulators but the Evasons treat their audiences with dignity and generosity. They never humiliate participants or exploit beliefs.
Legacy and influence
The Evasons have inspired an entire generation of mentalists,
especially those interested in duo work and pure performance styles.
Many in the community study their act not just to learn their techniques
but to understand how to perform with elegance and humanity.
They’ve also paved the way for more women in mentalism which is a space traditionally dominated by men. Tessa’s role is not that of an assistant or prop, she is the heart of the act.
Their lectures and workshops are sought after by serious performers
and their reputation remains untarnished in a field where egos can overshadow the craft. Their career is not just impressive, it’s exemplary.
