My Vanishing Act

There’s a moment in every good performance where the audience looks amazed because something has gone missing.
It’s usually a coin, a thought, or a person and in that absence, you obtain something far more powerful… Attention!
Well… since December, I’ve been the thing that vanished.
No blog posts, no updates, no weird rants about psychic octopuses or Psychic armadillos!
Just silence.
Why did I vanish?
Well, I’ve had a lot going on… No, I didn’t retreat into a candlelit wigwam to commune with ancient forces or write the next greatest forbidden mindreading manuscript!
Let me come clean: I’ve been cheating… Not cheating at cards or cheating on my beloved wife. I’ve been cheating on mentalism, but just hear me out before you judge me.
It started around 3 years ago, when I decided to make my friend a bottle of aftershave for his 40th. Since then I’ve set up a home lab, got a license from HMRC and conducted many experiments, some ok and some not so.
For anyone who knows me, knows that this isn’t all that unusual, I have many different interests and am always dabbling in something. I have a 50L still that I use to make spirits.
Not ghosts… I’m talking about the fun kind: Whiskey and gin!
But this isn’t the only reason I’ve been radio silent,
I was supposed to be having more shoulder surgery to try and increase the movement in my arm and alleviate some of the pain.
A few cancellations later and before I knew it 5 months had passed. I’m going in for a second shoulder replacement on Friday, so normal waffle shall commence soon.
Fragmented Thoughts
If you’ve ever disappeared, even briefly then you’ll know this:
The world doesn’t stop but you do change and when you return… You’re not the same person you was before.
Time out makes you sharper, you notice things about people, things you might not have noticed before.
You become more aware of the invisible threads that hold everything together and that’s where the real mentalism begins.
