DIGITAL MENTALISM VOL 2
CIPHER PRO
I shall start this review by apologising to Christopher.
You see, I’ve had a review copy of Digital Mentalism volume 2 for around 9 months now and I’m only just getting around to writing this review, there’s been a number of obstacles since Christopher sent me this, including a family death and me having to have shoulder replacement surgery.
Anyway I’m finally getting around to it, sorry it’s ridiculously late but let’s see if I can do this review some justice…
Hold on a minute, before you start waffling your madness.
I have a few questions: Who is this Christopher Parrish and what the heck is Digital Mentalism Vol 2?
I was getting round to that before you interrupted
Who is Christopher Parrish?
Christopher Parrish is The Digital Prophet of mentalism.
He could also Be a time travelling cyborg, I’m not quite sure which one yet!
Humour me if you will:
Imagine Nikola Tesla and Derren Brown are onboard Nebuchadnezzar, exploring the matrix when suddenly they produce a lovechild.
That child would probably grow up to be Christopher Parrish.
Christopher isn’t just a mentalist. He’s a mental mechanic, rewiring his audience’s perception with digital delights, charisma and just a hint of chaos.
He is also the brains behind the Digital Mentalism series.
Which brings me to your next question: What is Digital Mentalism?
Digital Mentalism is a series of PDF’s by Christopher, which could probably best be described as a mind blowing fusion of old school mind reading with app infused technology.
Digital Mentalism Volume 2 is centred around Cipher Pro, an app so stealthy, so sneaky, and so clever that it should come with a tiny warning label:
Side effects may include standing ovations and mild accusations of sorcery!
First of all let me just state that Christopher doesn’t use Cipher Pro like most people do. You know… The lottery ticket thing?
Instead Christopher uses Cipher Pro as a tool for pie shop.
What is all this nonsensical talk about a Pie shop?
Sssh!
I’m talking in code!
I don’t own Digital Mentalism Vol 1, so I can’t really tell you anything about that. But I will definitely be purchasing DMV1 at some point in the future!
*EDIT: YOU CAN FIND MY REVIEW OF DIGITAL MENTALISM VOLUME 1 BELOW*
What makes DMV2 so special?
Well I’m glad you asked. Let’s unpack this digital Pandora’s box together.
As I already said Christopher uses Cipher Pro for a different purpose.
In other words: P*e sho* (yes I’m still speaking in code!) both covertly and overtly and he can gather a whole lot of information about multiple people without anybody even realising!
Traditional pie shop (Just play along with me!) can often feel like you’re wrestling a rabid squirrel while simultaneously juggling a notebook.
Well with Christopher’s method not only are you learning a method for p*e sho* that feels smooth, seamless, and fun to use. You’re also learning how to secretly mine your participants soul for secrets!
I should also point out that you get a whole bunch of routines that have been personally road tested by him through countless real life performances, as well as essays on p*e sho*.
Have you got any favourite routines?
Well actually I do… My favourite routines are:
Remembrance
A bold approach to the memory divination.
This routine is beautiful, haunting and weirdly emotional. You take the spectator on a journey into their own memories and reveal personal details they thought were locked away deep inside their own heads.
Remembrance isn’t just a trick, it’s an experience. The kind that makes people tear up, question reality and then follow you on Instagram!
If Seinfeld Could Guess PIN Codes
Magically transforming the number 365 into 10,000
This routine had me chuckling to myself like a cartoon villain.
Christopher took a classic mindreading effect: Guessing a PIN code
and reframed it through the lens of a quirky, observational comedy character.
This routine is sharp and like a masterclass in character driven mentalism.
Those are my favourites and here’s what I love about Christopher Parrish
He doesn’t just hand you a bunch of tricks and fire you off to be a one hit wonder. He shares with you his philosophy, frameworks, and permission to be a little bit strange within your performances.
He encourages mentalists to break out of the cookie cutter mould and create performances that are personal, modern, and meaningful.
His material doesn’t just work, it inspires you to build on it.
Some standout features:
He includes both app and non app methods:
He doesn’t leave you stranded if you don’t have Cypher Pro.
He includes well thought out theory:
The real gold is in his commentary. You’ll start rethinking your character, your pacing and even your ethics.
He includes performance ready routines:
These aren’t vague ideas. They’re fully polished routines with plenty of scope to make them your own.
Who should get this?
Performers who want to integrate tech whilst using something we all carry on us everyday, everywhere we go.
Performers who want to add emotional depth and a cool narrative to their work.
Performers who enjoy being amazed and amazing others.
Anyone who hears Digital Mentalism calling their name in a soft whisper.
Any Drawbacks?
Only one: You’ll wish there were more volumes of Digital Mentalism.
Christopher is so good at blending practicality with creativity that you’ll want him to release a whole series of Digital Mentalism books.
Christopher, if you’re reading this please make it happen.
Also, are you from the future? Be honest!
Conclusion:
Digital Mentalism Volume 2 is a love letter to modern mentalism, written in binary code and gift wrapped in theatrical flair.
It’s creative, clever, ethical, emotional and just the right amount of weird.
If you care about your craft and you want to create deeper connections with your audience. Buy it, study it, perform it and thank me later.
But don’t come crying to me when your audience start asking if you’ve made a deal with the devil!
