PTSD
If you’re a mentalist who loves messing with reality
and your audiences perception just enough to keep them awake at night,
then PTSD by Mark Lemon might be your new favourite toy.
No, it’s not a therapy session for Japanese snow monkeys, it’s a bold mentalism effect that will shake your spectators understanding of what just happened and that’s exactly why it works so damn well. Let’s dive into the world of PTSD, where psychological illusion meets sneaky method and Mark Lemon tries to prove that he doesn’t secretly sport a monocle.
What is PTSD?
Okay, deep breath. Let’s clear up the name right away.
While PTSD usually stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,
in the hands of Mark Lemon,
it’s been reimagined as Portal To a Single Destination.
This is a powerful, visual, and completely fair looking routine that leaves spectators questioning their own perception
and wondering if you even have a soul.
The effect… An envelope is shown at the start, then with no boring, drawn out, complicated process, your spectator names a playing card, the envelope is opened and your prediction is dead on. Their named card is in the envelope.
It’s similar to a snow monkey snatching a hot potato in a spa.
What the heck do you mean snow monkeys?
Oh didn’t I mention, performing PTSD is like watching a troop of Japanese snow monkeys sitting in a hot spring, then suddenly levitating, while solving a Sudoku puzzle. It’s surreal, it’s unexpected and it makes people say:
HOLY SH*T! What just happened?
Like the snow monkeys, the method for PTSD is cheeky, brilliant and relaxed but hiding beneath the surface is a dangerous intelligence.
This is powerful simplicity at it’s best. There’s no tech, no switches, no reset nightmares and no zoo permits required.
Just you, a prediction envelope and one slippery moment of genius.
That’s enough monkey business thank you!
I was just getting started, but ok let’s look at what you get with PTSD:
2 envelopes. 1 red and 1 black, they are identical in nature,
Mark provides 2 just in case you wanted to colour coordinate with your socks.
The envelopes have been created in a very specific way. I don’t really want to give too much away here so you’ll just have to buy it to find out more!
Prediction cards, yes there’s more than 1 but you knew that already and that is why I’m going to shut up now before I say too much!
Video tutorial, approximately 1 hour of video teaching you all the stuff you need to know to set up PTSD as well as all the little nooks ‘n crannies that Mark shares.
There’s also some live performance footage to show you just how clean PTSD is.
Very good but what are the strengths and weaknesses?
You really are determined to spoil my fun today!
Let’s get down to (monkey) business and look at the strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths:
Beginner friendly: Easy to learn and perform.
Easy set up: Put the cards in the envelope exactly as Mark teaches and you’re good.
Instant reset: Just put the card back in the envelope and the jobs a good’un.
Durable gimmicks: The cards are made from a plastic, making them waterproof.
Packs flat: So minimal it fits inside your pocket, wallet or purse.
Can perform online: You can perform PTSD virtually, making it ideal for zoom.
Deceptively simple: Like a spa loving monkey!
Weaknesses:
Not examinable: Due to the way it is constructed, PTSD is not examinable.
Snow monkey not supplied: You have to go to Japan to get your own!
So the strengths outweigh the weaknesses,
but is PTSD is worth going bananas for?
Oh you’re even stealing my jokes now!
I would say PTSD is best for:
Thinkers, snow monkeys, weirdos, close up performers, mentalists who love quick, snappy effects and anyone who appreciates Japanese animal metaphors!
You should probably avoid this if:
You hate snow monkeys!
Fragmented Thoughts:
Yes, go bananas for PTSD it’s a nice little masterpiece that plays well in just about any scenario. It forces your audience to question their life choices and what just happened and that is the mark of great mentalism.
Mark Lemon has delivered a tool that feels like it was pulled straight from the secret scrolls of the snow monkey dojo.
