I was sat looking out at the front garden today, enjoying my morning coffee.
The ground was damp and autumn leaves were scattered all over the stone circle patio.
Then I noticed him, Steve! Well Sneaky Steve to give him his full name.
Sneaky Steve is the name my granddaughter affectionately had given to a local squirrel one year after we spotted him stealing the bird treats we put in the trees.
Steve was busy this morning, gathering conkers and burying them all around the garden, this is something I watch him do quite regularly.
I’ve always assumed he was burying them so he could come back later and retrieve them, and that may very well be exactly what Steve is doing year upon year.
But like the philosopher Mr. Eugene Lewis Fordsworthe once said:
“Assumption is the mother of all mistakes.”
And you know what happens when I assume right?
I make an ASS out of U and ME!
I began to wonder if Steve was doing something else, but what else could he possibly be doing?
One of the options I mulled over was perhaps Steve is investing these conkers, much like we invest money in the hope that it will one day grow.
‘I wonder if Sneaky Steve is burying these conkers, hoping to grow more conker trees, thus creating more food for the future?’
Then I started thinking, which is always dangerous for me!
“If we really do learn from observing nature, what can I learn from Sneaky Steve?”
Well, if Steve’s investing his cache of conkers for his future, what can I invest for my future?
Apart from the obvious answer: Money!
I can invest my time and energy into everything I do, in this case it is mentalism.
Where shall I start? Learn more tricks? Practise the ones I already know? Watch more DVDs?
Aha! I had a lightbulb moment….
“I’ll revisit the basics!”
I’ll start with Corinda’s 13 steps.
But I won’t just read it this time… I’ll absorb it!
So my goal, throughout these colder months (which is usually when I don’t want to go outside very much) is to revisit the basics, absorb and practise them until they become like second nature.
Surely this can only be a good thing right?
I’ll let you know how that’s going in a future post.
Until next time, stay safe, warm and well my friends.
