No, not the movie!
I’ve been trolled!
First of all, thank you for your message, I appreciate anybody who takes the time to read my blog and message me.
Let me start by saying that I’m open to criticism as long as it’s constructive but something about this (anonymous) message feels personal.
Mum is that you?
I must admit I was slightly perplexed when I received the message, the writer didn’t even leave a contact email or a name.
It might as well as have been a ransom note!
Nonetheless, I’d like to respond to this “feedback” So I’m posting here.
“I’ll get right into the meat and potatoes of it, if you understood the art of mentalism then you would realise that YOU are not qualified to write about it.”
I’m not sure what I’m supposed to understand about the art of mentalism that would make me realise that I’m not qualified to write about it?
I have never once professed to be qualified in anything, least of all mentalism. In fact, I would like to ask:” Is anybody qualified to write about mentalism?”
“Who decides?”
“This blog is a mess, you provide no real insights regarding mentalism or the products which you claim to review, instead you write nonsense that has no relevance to the product its creator or mentalism in general.”
Well I chip away at the site a little bit at a time in between a busy work and family life. I am trying to create a resource for anyone and everyone who has an interest in mentalism.
Just like the Romans, I lay a few bricks every day!
I don’t know everything about mentalism but the little that I do understand, I’d like to share with others and since there’s quite probably a large portion of mentalists that are hobbyists/amateurs, then who better to share information with them than somebody from that same demographic?
As for reviews…
I never intended for this site to just be about reviews but they are always going to be a big part of it. I’ve said it before and I will say it again; I am not an experienced mentalist and I’ve never claimed to be!
I try to inject a little humour into each of my posts, especially the reviews.
There’s only so many times someone can say what they did or didn’t like about products and materials before people get bored.
I like to think that my silly little stories are light hearted and fun and make at least some of my readers’ smile?
I still try and give a meaningful review of the product I’m reviewing; I might not understand certain aspects as well as others but I do try to address everything as best I can.
Did you really think Fraser Parker was a mushy pea farmer?
“I know this may seem harsh but your posts are erratic and not very useful if I’m being honest I found your approach quite annoying.”
I’m not sure why my posts may seem erratic to you?
Maybe it’s because they’re unpredictable? Surely if my posts were predictable, nobody would want to read them?
Is it my approach to writing or mentalism that’s annoying?
“Why do you feel qualified to write about mentalism?”
As I explained earlier in this post, I have never claimed to be qualified in anything. I started writing as a way to keep myself motivated and I also find it very therapeutic.
“Do you honestly think anybody will want to read your blog?”
Really I don’t know, I hope so. I mean, I’ve had some positive feedback and you’re the first person (that I know of) who has taken a dislike to what I’m doing!
“Do you have any experience performing?”
Nope, not really. Well I’ve done bits here and there, for family and friends. I did do a 60th house party once and that was ok although I did get pretty drunk.
Why does it matter? I have never claimed to be an experienced performer anyway!
“What are you contributing to the arts?”
Great question, I like to think I am contributing somehow and the purpose of this blog is to try and create a resource for anyone and everyone who has an interest in mentalism, but I don’t actually know. I suppose time will tell!
“These are all valid points for you to reflect on, my advice to you is quit what you’re doing and save yourself further embarrassment.”
Reflecting isn’t a problem for me and I’m sorry to inform you but I can’t quit. I’ll just have to suffer the consequences!
“I really hope you take notice of this reality check.”
My reality is this: I’ve spent my entire life trying to be a people pleaser and I started this blog as an outlet where I can just unapologetically be myself. I love mentalism and I’m very passionate about it, in fact I still get chuftys when people show me tricks!
I started this blog with good intentions and hope to create a resource and platform where others can also share their ideas, stories and experiences, is that really so bad? If anybody dislikes it so much, then just remember:
Nobody’s forcing you to read it!
Regards
Ryan
