Speaking with the deceased first became popular during the 19th century, when three young ladies known as the Fox sisters charged people to watch them communicating with the dead. This gave birth to the Spiritualism movement and it wasn’t long before the Fox sisters became celebrities, touring and holding multiple sessions a day.
